A letter from Dr. Yossi Beilin 14/12/2009

Dear Friends of Peace Now,

I write to you today because I believe that while the need for peace may be ever more urgent, it is no less attainable. We stand today at a critical juncture. The Goldstone Report weighs heavy upon the nation, Mahmoud Abbas threatens to resign and dismantle the PA, and the frosty relationship with the Obama Administration leaves Israel ever more isolated to deal with the challenges she faces.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, whose speech at Bar Ilan lit a flicker of hope when he supported the principle of two states for two people, has since proven that he is not serious about a peace agreement, only recently announcing a partial and temporary settlement freeze, but without initialisng any steps to bring about an end to the occupation. As the Israeli government belittles the PA at every opportunity, it is of little surprise that Abbas’ authority has diminished, undermining him as a partner for peace. Hamas alone is the victor.

In Jerusalem, the situation remains delicate and explosive, as Jewish settlers move into Palestinian neighbourhoods such as Sheih Jarrah or Silwan, creating realities on the ground, further complicating steps
towards peace. While the Palestinians remain relatively calm today, that an escalation in settler provocations in East Jerusalem could drag us towards a third intifada.

Right now, we must call upon our politicians and demand that they take the necessary and courageous steps to advance towards a comprehensive peace accord with our Arab neighbours. American involvement is essential, and Obama must present a practical plan for all parties to follow. Nevertheless, we have come a tremendous
way and polls consistently indicate that almost four fifths of the Israeli public support peace based on the twostate principle, even if they do not share our urgency. If Israel wishes to avoid becoming a pariah state, she must move forward on multiple diplomatic tracks.

She must work towards the conclusion of a peace accord with the Palestinians. She must heed the calls of Syrian President Bashar Assad to end the state of war between the two sides, which would break up the axis of fundamentalism running from Iran to Gaza. She must take the Saudi Peace Plan seriously.

Settlements are the single greatest threat to the implementation of the two-state solution, and this so-called freeze must be implemented and extended to East Jerusalem. Change is in the power of the Israeli government and its citizens.

As a man who for decades has written and promoted peace initiatives from Oslo to Geneva, both behind the scenes and in the public arena, I applaud Peace Now’s efforts to work tirelessly within the Israeli population – through public campaigns, student activities, demonstrations, running tours and educating society through its magnificent Settlement Watch programme. The Berlin Wall fell 20 years ago because of two major factors: bold leaders and brave citizens. Then, as today in the Middle East, the factors were not on the side of progress. But their wisdom and determination should encourage us all.

You are an essential part of this movement, and it is by writing letters to news outlets, pressuring your political leaders and spreading the message of Peace Now to both sides of the debate that you can make a real difference.

Israeli media said Netanyahu was doubtful Livni would accept the offer which would land her a post as minister without portfolio. “In closed forums he clearly hints that if that Livni turns him down, he will work to split the opposition faction,” YNet said. Military radio reported meanwhile that Livni has agreed to meet Netanyahu tomorrow to discuss the matter, after receiving a call from government secretary Zvi Hauser. After meeting Netanyahu on Thursday, Livni voiced serious reservations, saying the offer was a ploy by the prime minister. “This is a transparent media spin,” the mass-selling Yediot Aharonot quoted her as saying. But with several Kadima members threatening to walk over to the government, Livni has put the issue on the agenda for discussion by her party’s leaders. Netanyahu’s offer comes at a time when Kadima is torn by internal divisions, while the premier is struggling to maintain stability in his government. He made it clear he had no intention to enter lengthy negotiations but insisted his offer is serious. “I would be very, very glad if Tzipi Livni would agree to join,” Yediot Aharonot quoted him as saying. “If all of Kadima is in the government, this would strengthen Israel’s standing internationally and on the Palestinian track.” Middle East peace efforts have been at a standstill since Israel launched a devastating three-week offensive in Gaza one year ago. The Palestinians insist they will not return to the negotiating table unless Israel completely freezes settlement building. Under US pressure, Netanyahu announced a partial, 10-month moratorium, but it fell short of Palestinian demands and angered his right-wing allies. His difficulties in maintaining stability in the government were underscored in recent days as key ministers from his rightwing Likud party objected to a proposed swap of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who has been held by the Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip for over three years. Livni’s Kadima party is the largest in the 120-member parliament with 28 MPs, but had failed to form a government after the February elections and refused to join forces with Netanyahu, whose Likud-led governing alliance includes far-right and religious parties as well as the centre-left Labour party.

זהו שבוע לא פשוט לעם בישראל ושבוע קשה במיוחד לראש ממשלה בישראל.

הדיון הזה זומן על ידי האופוזיציה על מנת לדרוש מראש הממשלה לפרוש את תכניותיו ועמדותיו ולנו, באופוזיציה, זאת ההזדמנות לשטוח את חזוננו ולבקר את הממשלה - ויש על מה לבקר את הממשלה ואת ראש הממשלה על התנהלותו והעדר החלטה בכל נושא משמעותי. ובעיקר בכל הקשור למדיניות החוץ של ישראל.

אבל זהו שבוע מיוחד ויש דברים שצריכים להיאמר

מאז חטיפתו של גלעד שליט הבהרתי כי אני מסרבת להיגרר בנושא זה למגרש הפוליטי. לא אעשה זאת גם היום. אין בכוונתי לבקר היום את התשובה שניתנה לחמאס, מה שלא הייתה . אני מכבדת את החלטת רה"מ, גם אם אין בה עדיין את מימוש תקוותו של העם לראות את גלעד חוזר הביתה משדה הקרב.
מאז יום ראשון השבוע, שנודע שיש צורך להכריע ומשהתכנסה השביעייה, אני חושבת הרבה על ההחלטה שצריך ראש הממשלה לקבל. אני זוכרת את עסקת טננבאום – הצבעתי נגדה, את רגב וגולדווסר, בה תמכתי בלב כבד, וחשבתי על ימי הדיונים בשולחן השלישייה של הממשלה הקודמת שעסקו במאמצים להשיב את גלעד שליט. אני זוכרת את ההחלטות שקיבלנו, בהובלת ראש הממשלה אהוד אולמרט ,וחשוב לומר היום במיוחד, שרה"מ אולמרט, גם בשלהי כהונתו, ראה בעניין הזה את הטווח הארוך ועמד בלחצים ובגלי הביקורת הלא מוצדקת שהוטחה כלפיו בגין אותה החלטה שלא להסכים לכל תנאי החמאס כדי להשיב את גלעד שליט -חייל שיצא להגן על אזרחי ישראל בשם מדינת ישראל.

החלטות אלה בעניין שבויים, הן בין הקשות לראש ממשלה ולשריה. השיקולים הם רבים, מורכבים ורק אחרי ששוקלים את כולם מורה המצפן הפנימי שבלב המנהיג מה לעשות ולעולם זאת תהיה החלטה שנויה במחלוקת ותותיר ספקות בלב המחליט גם לאחר ביצועה.
יש את השבוי עצמו, גלעד שליט האדם, חיוכו ,דיבורו המבויש משהו שהפכו את גלעד לבן משפחה חסר, בכל בית בישראל.
ויש את ההורים. גלעד הוא הבן של אביבה ונעם שליט ויישאר ילד בעיניהם בכל גיל . מאבקם להשבתו הביתה מובן - הרי כל הורה היה נותן את חייו לראות את בנו חוזר חי שלם וכל הורה בישראל, כן גם אני, מדמיינת איך מכילים את הכאב הבלתי נסבל, האם הוא מתענה עכשיו, האם יודע עד כמה אוהבים.

וראש ממשלה צריך להסתכל להורים בעיניים ולומר שהוא רואה אותם מול עיניו בעת קבלת ההחלטה אבל האחריות שלו מחייבת אותו לראות לא רק אותם, אלא להעריך מראש מה תהיה השפעת ההסכמה לתנאיו של ארגון טרור, חמאס או חיזבאללה, על עתיד ישראל ובטחונה . לא פחות.

ויש את החברה בישראל והשפעת ההחלטה על החוסן הלאומי וכולנו רואים את הכמיהה לשובו של גלעד, ואיך משפיעה העובדה שהוא עדיין בשבי על החברה כולה. את ילדי כיתה א' כותבים לו משל היה אחיהם, תיכוניסטים לפני גיוס איתם נפגשתי שמציגים את נכונות הממשלה להשיבו הביתה בכל מחיר כמבחן מוסרי המשליך לצערי על מוטיבציית הגיוס.
ולהם צריך להגיד- גלעד הוא הילד של כולנו. בתחושתנו. אבל הוא חייל צבא הגנה לישראל שיצא להגן על אזרחים. ככה זה בישראל. החיילים שומרים על הילדים ושהילדים יהיו בוגרים בני שמונה עשרה הם יתגייסו כדי לשמור על הילדים ועל הוריהם. על האזרחים כולם.
ומדינת ישראל נלחמת על קיומה וחיילי צבא הגנה לישראל משליכים נפשם מנגד כדי להגן על אזרחי המדינה וחלקם שילמו בחייהם ביניהם, גם באירוע הקשה בו נחטף גלעד,גם בהאמר שממנו נחטפו אלדד רגב ואודי גולדווסר.

ויש את הערכים של צה"ל ומפקדיו. הערבות ההדדית, הנכונות להקריב את חייך בשביל חבר, לא מפקירים פצוע בשטח אבל גם לא נכנעים כדי למנוע פגיעה באותו פצוע . ויש את מבצעי החילוץ הנועזים שמהווים סמל וחלק ממורשת הקרב של צה"ל .

ויש את כושר ההרתעה של ישראל – מושג, אולי לא מוגדר ומדויק. אבל כולל לא רק את כוחו הצבאי של צה"ל ומספר גיסותיו ומטוסיו אלא גם את הנכונות להלחם ואת ההחלטות שמקבלים מנהיגיו. האם אלו מעידים על חולשה וחוסר נכונות להקריב במאבק הקיום, או במילים אחרות- כניעה לטרור או שהן ביטוי למוסר וערבות הדדית חברתית, לעיתים לא מוכרת ולא מובנת בעולם החופשי ששולח חיילים מעבר לאוקיינוס, חלקם נחטפים וחלקם חוזרים בארונות, כחלק ממחיר המלחמה בטרור.

ויש כמובן את המסוכנות של הטרוריסטים שיצאו לחופשי ואת המסר לאלה שבדרך ואת אלה שסיכנו חייהם על מנת להביאם לדין ולכלוא אותם.


בסופו של יום לא מדובר במתמטיקה של מספר רוצחים שישוחררו מול דרגת הכאב של ההורים. השטן לא המציא עוד מתמטיקה כזאת. אפילו לא מדובר בחוות דעת מקצועיות של שירותי הביטחון מול ציבור שרוצה לחבק חייל שהפך להיות הבן האובד של כולנו .
חשבתי עליך ראש הממשלה בימים האלה של הישיבות האין סופיות של השביעייה, כיוון שלכל החלטה יש מחיר כבד בטווח הקצר או הארוך.
חשבנו שזאת העת של האופוזיציה לאפשר לך לבוא נקי, בידיים נקיות, בראש נקי מעניינים פוליטיים, לבוא לדיונים ולשקול את כל השיקולים כשאתה מרוכז בעיקר. רק בעיקר.

חשבנו על הציבור שנושא עיניו לירושלים באמונה. ציבור שמחכה להחלטה, ובעיני הציבור בעיקר רוצה שהנהגתו תקבל את ההחלטה לאחר ששקלה את כל השיקולים הנכונים, ותסתכל בעיניו ותנמק כל החלטה גם הקשה ביותר.

ורצינו לנקות את היום ההוא מפוליטיקה. ביטלנו אירועים פוליטיים, ביטלנו את הצעת אי האמון.
ביום שני בערב כאשר כונסה השביעייה, ישבתי וכתבתי את הדברים האלה שאמרתי לך ולאומה כאן, דברים שאמרתי בכדי שהציבור יבין את המורכבות הבלתי נתפסת שאתה עומד בפניה של ההחלטות האלה ולחזור ולומר לא נגרור את זה למגרש הפוליטי. חשבתי שבשבוע הזה גם במסגרת ה – 40 חתימות צריך להסתפק בדברים האלה.

כך אני נהגתי. כך נהגה קדימה. לדאבוני, טרם יבשה הדיו על הדברים שנכתבו על הנייר, שמעתי ,ולא דרך שמועות או רכילות, שבאותם יומיים עוסקים ראש ממשלת ישראל, ושר הביטחון שלה, בפוליטיקה שיותר מהכול – היא מבישה בימים האלה. שיחות שכנוע לחברים שיפלגו את מפלגתם בהתאם לאותו חוק מכוער שראש הממשלה התעקש על חקיקתו. והדבר עורר בי קודם כל שאט נפש, לא בגלל המטרה או החשש מהמטרה שלך מזה זמן רב.
אדם בדרך כלל בוחן את זולתו לפי ערכיו והתנהלותו שלו.
פוליטיקאי שהמטרה שלו היא הכיסא בלבד ולא כמקום נדרש לקידום הרעיון חושב שאלה השיקולים המניעים את כולם – כיסא, תפקיד, ג'וב. אני, בניגוד אליך, מאמינה בקדימה, בחזונה ובאנשיה אני מאמינה בקיומם של פוליטיקאים שיש בהם את היושרה, הנאמנות והערכיות שאתה חושב שאין להם .אני מבינה שכך ראש הממשלה רואה את הפוליטיקאים כולם. כך הורכבה ממשלה אחת, כך לא הורכבה ממשלה אחרת.

ואם עד היום קדימה הוכיחה את היותה אלטרנטיבה מול ממשלתך ומולך בעקרונות ובמדיניות, בימים האלה היא הוכיחה , שוב, שהיא אלטרנטיבה גם בהתנהלות, במוסר ובערכים.
היית צריך לדעת , ראש הממשלה, שכשהציבור מסתכל על ירושלים באמונה, הוא גם יראה את מה שנעשה מאחורי הקלעים. אוי לאותה לבושה.

ואוסיף למרות הכול – אם תמיכה אתה מבקש. תמיכה בדרך, שלא לצורך הישרדות חסרת תוכן ומזיקה - תנהג נכון, תקבל את ההחלטות הנכונות לישראל– ואנחנו נעמוד במילתנו ונתמוך בך. זה יקרה דרך אגב יחד עם הציבור כולו. לכידות רה"מ, שדיברת עליה קודם ואחדות, תהיה לא סביב הצורך שלך לשרוד, אני מבינה שזה חשוב בעיניך אבל פחות בעיני עם ישראל. אלא רק סביב ההכרעות המדיניות האמיתיות ואז תמצא תמיכה, תמצא אחדות ותמצא לכידות. אבל אם תימנע מקבלת החלטות, תסבך את ישראל ותשקיע את כל זמנך בהישרדות על חשבון המדינה– אנחנו נהיה כאן להציג לכל את פעולותיך ומשגיך ונמשיך להיות לציבור אלטרנטיבה של מהות, של חזון ושל תקווה.

חיסול לאור יום: אופנוען נורה למוות ביפו

אורי קואל 17:31 , 19/05/2011 גבר בשנות ה-30 לחייו נורה למוות ברחוב שבטי ישראל על-ידי אלמונים, שנמלטו מהמקום. צוותי מגן דוד אדום שהוזעקו למקום מצאו את הגבר כשהוא ירוי בכל חלקי גופו. כוחות גדולים של משטרה פתחו בחקירת הנסיבות של הרצח. כמו כן מתנהל מצוד אחר החשוד או החשודים בביצוע המעשה חשד לחיסול ביפו: גבר כבן 30 נורה למוות בצהריים (ה') ברחוב שבטי ישראל על-ידי אלמוני או אלמונים, שנמלטו מהמקום. פראמדיקים של מגן דוד אדום הוזעקו למקום והחלו לבצע בו פעולות החייאה ממושכות שבסופן הם קובעים את מותו. כיווני החקירה הראשונים מעלים חשד כי הגבר נרצח על רקע פלילי. הגבר נמצא ירוי מספר רב של פעמים כשהוא שרוי על הכביש וקסדה חבושה לראשו. כוחות גדולים של משטרת מרחב דן שכבר נמצאים במקום פתחו בחקירת הנסיבות של הרצח. כמו כן מתנהל מצוד אחר החשוד או החשודים בביצוע המעשה. רק בחודש שעבר נורה למוות אדם ביפו. ב-10 באפריל נרצח צעיר המוכר למשטרה ברחוב אלברט קיוסו. מהירי נפצע גם חברו. השניים נורו בעת שרכבו על אופנוע. בפברואר האחרון נורה למוות ביפו סוחר דגים בן 55 ששהה מחוץ למסעדת דגים באזור הנמל שבעיר. הוא פונה לבית החולים וולפסון עם פצעי ירי קשים וכעבור זמן קצר נקבע מותו. שני החשודים בירי הגיעו ככל הנראה למקום וירו מספר פעמים מטווח קצר לעבר הסוחר, שאינו מוכר כבעל עבר פלילי למשטרה.

2009 Tel Aviv-Yafo Dudu Topaz Tragic Suicide

Dudu Topaz like Zohar Argov will not be Forgotten
All though the story is not the same Zohar Argov also died in Jail and became more famous after his death,
Dudu Topaz should have been prevented from Suicide.
The Pressure of the Media and the Social-Political pressure is similar.
Much of Dudu Topaz`s Material will stay with us and his Family.
Tragic and unfair end. He would have recovered in a Regular Jail.
That was my Response to Haaretz Article to this Tragedy.

I met Dudu when I worked in Century Tower some years ago.
